A collection of forged steel bits and bobs

During our senior year of high school, all students are exempt from class for the last 3 weeks to pursue a topic of interest. Some students write novels or design board games, others shadow doctors or businessmen. I learned blacksmithing. This was the beginning of my apprenticeship at Black Oak Forge (Juneau, WI), and the beginning of my career as a blacksmith. I learned from Roger Snyder, a blacksmith with over 55 years.
Roger would connect me to a number of blacksmithing events where I would have the opportunity to teach and learn alongside dozens of veteran tradesmen.
Today, at MIT, I’m thrilled to spend as much time as possible in the forge. I teach classes of 6-12 students and enjoy the mentorship of the experienced forge staff.
